Gladiolus Purple Flora
The large flowering Sword Lily is so striking and eye catching that it does best in very serene and seasonal beds and borders. Or plant them in a formal setting with a buxus lining. Ideally they stand alone. Ofcourse they are the jewel of the cut flower garden. Plant in full sun. The soil should be well drained. Especially these taller varieties should be planted at a greater depth than normal (about 15 cm deep) to at least partially protect them against their being uprooted. Cut the flower spikes when the second flower on the spike is opening. Try cutting the spike without removing the leaves.
